Twilight actor Taylor Lautner is up for an award. MTV adds a new category to its MTV Movie Awards, Best Movie Line, and a “Jacob Black” quip is high in the running. It works on several levels of funny, but the trouble is, you had to be there. MTV rips it out of context. If you don’t know about the on-going competition between werewolf and vampire for Bella’s charms, you don’t get the hot-sexual vs. hot-cozy connotations. More pertinent, Edward is, well, cold as marble. Jacob is canine-toasty, like curling up with a warm dog. Of course, if you didn’t understand those things, you wouldn’t be reading this.
Lautner’s line: “Let’s face it, I’m hotter than you.” He’s in competition with Robert Pattinson’s “Doesn’t he own a shirt?” Both are from The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. In the running also are lines from Leonardo DiCaprio, Justin Timberlake, Jeff Bridges, and a host of others.
Taylor Lautner deserves to win. His quip caps off the running hot-cold joke, the whole sleeping bag scene, and the twisted, three-way relationship.
